Mumbai: Brothers Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor are strictly against remaking any of Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor`s films. "We don`t want to touch any of Raj Kapoor`s films," they said.
"We have given up the idea of making a remake of `Awaara`. It is very difficult to reproduce the same magic now," the brothers said at the special screening of Raj Kapoor`s ‘Awaara’ here.
Raj Kapoor died June 2, 1988, at the age of 63. To commemorate his 24th death anniversary, a special screening of his film ‘Awaara’ was organised by Radio Mirchi in Mumbai.
Time magazine has added Raj Kapoor`s ‘Awaara’ to the All-Time 100 Best list of the greatest films made since 1923. Made in 1951, this was one of the classics which showed Kapoor in the role of a tramp. The film also had Nargis, one of the prime actresses of the golden era.
Even though the Hindi film industry has some of the best talent today, the brothers feel that there is no comparison to Raj Kapoor.
"There is no actor like Raj Kapoor today. People remember him today because of his showmanship. We are so happy that even after 60 years, people watch his films. Till the time people love him, he will always be with us," they said.
The Kapoor family has been known for their contribution to the Indian film industry. They have been a part of the entertainment industry for almost 80 years now.
"We have given our whole life to the film industry. We are grateful to everyone who has liked us and we wish that we can entertain everyone till the time we die," Randhir Kapoor said.
