Filmmaker Satish Kaushik’s latest flick ‘Teree Sang’, which had been languishing for quite sometime since it had not found any buyers, has finally hit theatres. The film, with its tagline being ‘a kidult love story’, is about a teenage love with a realistic twist of furtive sex and premature parenthood. Although films like Preity Zinta’s ‘Kya Kehna’ have been made on ‘teen pregnancy’ earlier, this one is a little different. The film stars Ruslaan Mumtaz, debutante Sheena Shahabadi, Rajat Kapoor, Satish Kaushik, Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher in major roles. ‘Teree Sang’ is the story of Maahi (Sheena), who is the only child of well-off parents (Rajat Kapoor and Neena Gupta). The young girl becomes good friends with Kabir aka Kukko (Ruslaan) whose parents (Satish Kaushik and Sushmita Mukherjee) hail from a lower class of the society. As their friendship turns into love, the teenage couple gets intimate in a drunken state and ends up having sex. Later, Maahi gets pregnant and wants to keep the baby, while her father is completely against it. Her wish to deliver the child forces her to flee away with lover Kabir, which leads to complicate the situation further. Although the story is quite regular, Kaushik’s directorial approach seems to be quite realistic. Ruslaan has tremendous screen presence and has acted extremely well. Sheena makes a confident debut, however her childish voice begins to irritate you beyond a point. On the whole, ‘Teree Sang’ is not bad, may be, worth a watch if you have nothing much to do on weekends. But this one is certainly a better watch than RGV’s ‘Agyaat’! Rating: Three cheers.
