Mumbai: The twist in this tale doesn’t seem to end. Maria Susairaj has asked filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma to show his film ‘Not A Love Story’ to her before it releases. The film is based on the infamous Neeraj Grover’s murder case in which Maria was convicted of three years of imprisonment on charges of destruction of evidence.
Apparently, Susairaj has sent a notice to the filmmaker stating that she is worried that the film, which is said to be based on her life, will present her in a bad light. The ex Kannada actress has demanded a screening of the film prior to the release.
The notice also states that if RGV fails to organize a screening for her, she would be forced to file a case against him and ask for a stay order on the film`s release.
Speaking to a daily, RGV confirmed the news and said, "Yes, Maria has threatened to file a case against me and asked for a stay order on the film. The notice says she fears that the film will show her in a negative light and that she has to be shown the movie and I need to take her permission to release the film," he said.
Apprently, ramu is miffed with Maria for issuing a legal notice and not speaking to him directly about the matter. "My lawyer will reply to the notice. But I will not show her the film. She could have asked me directly. I would have shown it to her. I am not going to do it after being threatened like this," said the filmmaker.
When questioned about the stay order that Maria has threatened him with, he said he wasn’t worried about it as he has always maintained that the film is not based on Susairaj’s life. It is only inspired by Grover`s murder.
Meanwhile, Maria’s lawyer Sharif, is confident that Varma would be compelled to show the film to Maria because of court orders.
"We have sent a legal notice to Varma and the Censor Board. We have requested the Board to refrain from passing the film until Susairaj gets to watch it and gives her permission.
We will see to it that he doesn`t release it without her consent. We want to make sure that there are no objectionable portions in the film and we are sure the court will ask him to show it to her,” said Sharif.
The film has already been in news for all the wrong reasons. While Neeraj’s family had initially objected to the film, Neeraj’s father had later asked RGV to donate the profits of the film to a charitable trust. RGV had also initially shown keenness to cast Maria in one of his films.
Not A Love Story has been scheduled to be released on August 19.
