Chennai: Social media users are speculating if superstar Rajinikanth is joining BJP!

The excited social media is speculating so because RK Nagar's BJP candidate Gangai Amaran met Rajinikanth in Chennai on Tuesday morning.

Soon after the pic was tweeted by news agency ANI, a user Arunesh Narayan wrote,"Is this a sign ??"

Another user Srinivas wrote,  "Kabaali is looking simple and humble in real life. Next potential CM of Tamil nadu, if he joins BJP. ! Good luck.!"

A user Sai Baba wrote, "rajini knows which way the wind is blowing...fence sitting days over?"

What happened in the meeting?

During the brief meeting, Rajinikanth wished Gangai Amaran 'success' in his political innings, the latter's son Venkat Prabhu said in a tweet.

"Today our thalaivar @superstarrajini met and wished my dad for his political victory in #RKNagarByElection #happyson #GangaiAmaran," Prabhu's tweet said.

He also posted a picture of his father with Rajinikanth at the latter's residence.

Gangai Amaran, who joined the BJP in 2014, has been fielded by the party to contest the RK Nagar seat, where the byelection is being held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of late chief minister Jayalalithaa.

He had recently come out in the open alleging that AIADMK interim General Secretary V K Sasikala had 'arm twisted' him in parting with his property in the city outskirts in 1994 during the first regime of Jayalalithaa.

The music director had also lauded AIADMK rebel leader O Panneerselvam for his defiance of Sasikala. 

Bypoll

RK Nagar bypoll will take place on 12th April.

The byelection was necessitated following the December 5, 2016 death of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who represented this city constituency in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

DMK has announced N Maruthuganesh as it candidate for the April 12 bypoll for RK Nagar constituency.

Also, Congress ruled out supporting the AIADMK candidate in the April 12 RK Nagar bypoll.

AIADMK deputy general secretary T T V Dinakaran, also the party's candidate in the hustings scheduled next month, had earlier welcomed the support of opposition parties, including the DMK and the Congress to defeat the former.
