South Africa vs Australia, 2nd ODI — As it happened...

Nothing went the Aussies way from the start. They lost Finch early in the second over to Rabada. Warner and Head tried hard to stay longer at the crease, but soon after completing their half-centuries they too departed and with them the hopes of many Australian fans. From South African point of view, they took wickets at regular intervals which never allowed any batsman to settle for long. Wayne Parnell was the pick of the bowlers for Proteas, he picked up 3 wickets. South Africa are 2-0 up in the 5 match series and Australia will have to be at their best to beat the home side.

Australia Innings

Over 40 | Score 206/8 | (Tremain 0*)

Hastings hit an off-cutter to mid-wicket, not much pace to work with there. Ninth wicket down for Australia, Phehlukwayo got his first wicket of the match.

All over for Australia, another wicket for Phehlukwayo, slower ball, Zampa misread it and his stumps are shattered too like Mennie's.

WICKET: Zampa b Phehlukwayo 8 (11b)

Over 35 | Score 206/8 | (Hastings 18*, Zampa 6*)

Head was trapped in front of the stumps by a ripper from Rabada. On-field umpire gave him out and he reviewed it straightaway. But according to new rules the on-field call stayed and Travis had to depart after making 51.

Wade went for the pull and miscued it completely. Duminy at mid-wicket completed the formality.

Mennie missed a faster one from the leg-spinner Imran Tahir and his stumps are shattered.

WICKET: Wade c Duminy b Parnell 33 (33b)

WICKET: Mennie b Imran Tahir 1 (2b)

Over 30 | Score 178/5 | (Head 47*, Wade 31*)

Head is hitting some serious shots to Phehlukwayo. These two are trying to keep up with the run rate, but for how long they can deny the inevitable. From Australian team's point of view these two need to stay in the crease for a long period.

Over 25 | Score 138/5 | (Head 34*, Wade 20*)

Faf brought Duminy into the attack and he delivers with the wicket of Warner in his first over. Golden arm as we say! A short ball by the spinner, could have been dispatched anywhere in the ground, instead went into the hands of David Miller, he is not going to drop those dollies.

WICKET: Warner c Miller b Duminy 50 (56b)

Over 20 | Score 111/4 | (Warner 49*, Head 12*)

Just like other batsman, Marsh threw his wicket away. Parnell bowled it down the leg-side, it bounced and kissed Marsh's glove on the way into wicket-keeper hands. Australia are in a spot of bother now. Someone needs to stay with Warner and give him the strike as he is playing beautifully. Travis Head is the new man in for Aussies.

WICKET: Marsh c de Kock b Parnell 19 (19b)

Over 15 | Score 54/2 | (Warner 25*, Marsh 18*)

Parnell cleaned Bailey up as he was trying to go for the big shot. Off-stump goes for a walk. Parnell is pumped up after his first wicket of the match. South Africa are chipping away with wickets at regular intervals. Warner is the key for this chase.

WICKET: Bailey b Parnell 9 (18b)

Over 10 | Score 54/2 | (Warner 25*, Bailey 9*)

Styen dismissed Smith courtesy of wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock, who took a diving, tumbling catch to his left. Aussies need a partnership now to consolidate themselves, if they want to win this match.

WICKET: Smith c de Kock b Steyn 14 (12b)

Over 5 | Score 23/1 | (Warner 5*, Smith 13*)

Australia started off poorly as they lost Finch in the second over to a short ball. Rabada provided the first break through for Proteas.

WICKET: Finch c Behardien b Rabada 1 (5b)

South Africa Innings

South Africa started off well again with a 70 run patnership between Kock and Rossouw. Then a 150 run stand between Plsessis and Duminy made things even worse for Aussies. Hastings was the pick of the bowlers, took 3 wickets for 57 runs in 10 overs. Tremain took his maiden wicket of Behardien at the end of the innings. Australia need 362 to square-off the series.

Over 50 | Score 361/6 | (Phehlukwayo 13*, Parnell 8*)

Maiden ODI wicket for Chris Tremain. Behardien tried to slog it hard, ball was in the air for a decade and falls into safe hands of David Warner.

Hastings gets his third wicket of the match. Miller chopped it hard straight at point, where Zampa took a nice-low catch. 'Killer the Miller' is gone with 10 balls to go in the innings.

WICKET: Behardien c Warner b Tremain 13 (14b)

WICKET: Miller c Zampa b Hastings 26 (17b)

Over 45 | Score 316/4 | (Miller 12*, Behardien 3*)

Duminy got out trying to up the ante. Offcutter from MArsh, chops it onto the stumps. Never the less a good innings came to an end.

On the other hand, Plessis after making a fine century got out to the same bowler (Marsh). Tried to hit him out of the park but holds out to Smith, 5 metres inside the rope.

David Miller and Farhaan Behardien are new batsman present at the crease for the hosts. They will try and help South Africa cross the 350 run mark.

WICKET: Duminy b Marsh 82 (58b)

WICKET: Plessis c Smith b Marsh 111 (93b)

Over 40 | Score 264/2 | (Plessis 102*,  Duminy 55*)

Plessis cracked another hundred, his third against Australia and number 6 in total for South Africa. Duminy also made a pleaseant half-century.There is no respite for Australian bowlers as both of them are hitting boundaries with easy.

Over 35 | Score 224/2 | (Plessis 83*,  Duminy 37*)

Plessis is making full use of the inexperienced Australian bowling. With a strike rate of more than 100, both Duminy and Faf are playing beautifully. Proteas are on course of making more than 350 at the moment.

Over 25 | Score 148/2 | (Plessis 49*,  Duminy 0*)

Hastings has broken another good looking partnership, Rossouw departs after making 75. JP Duminy comes in at number 4 for South Africa.

WICKET: RR Rossouw c sub (DJ Worrall) b Hastings 75 (81b)

Over 15 | Score 86/1 | (Rossouw 54*, Plessis 10*)

In comes the South African skipper Faf du Plessis at number 3. A fine half-century for Rossouw, second of the series in as many matches.

WICKET: Q de Kock c Tremain b Hastings 22 (24b)

Over 5 | Score 41/0 | (de Kock 10*, Rossouw 31*)

After a magnificent 145-run stand for the opening wicket in the first ODI, both the left-handers have got South Africa off to yet another quick start. The team management decided to leave a veteran like Amla out keeping in mind Rossouw's form, and the left-hander has reposed the faith of the selectors with a quick hand so far.

South Africa have yet not included Hashim Amla, who according to skipper Faf du Plessis, was left out.

South Africa's playing XI: 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Rilee Rossouw, 3 Faf du Plessis (capt), 4 JP Duminy, 5 David Miller, 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Andile Phehlukwayo, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 Imran Tahir.
