AUSTRALIA 1ST INNINGS

OVER 70.3 | SCORE 244/10 (Siddle 18*)

Australia bowled out with a lead of just 2 runs. Terrific fight back by South Africa who were once being smashed left-right-centre by David Warner and Shaun Marsh. Aussies barely put up a partnership since the departure of their openers.

Philander with another one to his name. Mitch Marsh gone for duck. South Africa rally back by picking wickets at regular intervals.

OVER 30 | SCORE 133/0 (Warner 82, Marsh 44)

Philander-Steyn continue their spell despite failure to make the most of early morning conditions in WACA. Warner, Marsh racing towards their century and half-century respectively.

OVER 25 | SCORE 116/0 (Warner 75, Marsh 38)

Wicketless South Africa struggling for success against the Aussie duo of Daivd Warner and Shaun Marsh.

David Warner and Shaun Marsh put the hosts in total control on the opening day, where they added unbeaten 105-run stand for the opening wicket.

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood left South Africa wobbling as they picked wickets at regular intervals. Starc struck in the first over itself where he removed right-hander Stephen Cook for a duck. Hazlewood then got the big fish, as he scalped Hashim Amla (0) in the fourth over of the innings.

The two seamers hunted in pair and the Proteas were left in tatters, with the scoreboard reading 5/81 at one stage. It was then that Temba Bavuma (51) and Quinton de Kock resurrected the innings with a praiseworthy 71-run stand for the sixth wicket. De Kock, in particular, looked very impressive during his 101-ball 84.

Starc and Hazlewood were the pick of the bowlers for Australia as they picked four and three wickets respectively. Nathan Lyon picked two wickets while Peter Siddle grabbed one on comeback.

In reply, Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander proved to be no show as the two Australian left-handers dictated proceedings with a flurry of stupendous shots. In the last over of the day bowled by Keshav Maharaj, Warner hit three boundaries.

The highlight of Warner's knock was a six he hit against Steyn, where he lost balance, but the timing was good enough to sail the ball over wide third man.

At stumps on Day 1, Warner had cruised to 73 off just 62 balls and he was very well supported by Marsh, who remained unbeaten on 29.
