MS Dhoni a champion in ODIs but not sure if he is as good in T20s: Sourav Ganguly

With Rishabh Pant in the ranks, it might be just a matter of time before he replaces MS Dhoni in the shortest format of the game at least.

MS Dhoni a champion in ODIs but not sure if he is as good in T20s: Sourav Ganguly

New Delhi: MS Dhoni hasn't had the best of starts to the Indian Premier League 2017 season, having been failed to inspire Rising Pune Supergiant in any of the team's last two matches, which ended in defeat.

With the Champions Trophy just around the corner and Dhoni's form a big question, many have started wondering if playing the young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will be a better option than to select the Jharkhand batsman.

Indian cricket great, Sourav Ganguly, put light on the subject saying even he isn't sure if Mahi is as good a T20 batsman as he is in ODIs.

In an interview to India Today Ganguly said, "I am not too sure if Dhoni is a good T20 player. He is a champion ODI player but when it comes to T20 cricket, in 10 years, he has got one fifty and that's not the best record."

"I will pick Dhoni for the Champions Trophy but he has to score runs," said Ganguly.

With embarrasing scores of 12*, 5 and 11 in the 3 IPL matchs he has played so far for the RPS, the 35-year-old cricketer has failed to live up to the expectations of his fans and has also been criticized by RPS owner Sanjeev Goenka's brother Harsh on Twitter.

Dhoni’s playing style has been considered perfect for T20 cricket ever since he rose to stardom. While his all T20 record isn't bad, he has score just one fifty, which came recently made against England in February.

With his batting position considered as one of the reason behind inability to score big, his strike rate of 123.49 doesn’t do justice to his big-hitting abilities as well.

With Rishabh Pant in the ranks, it might be just a matter of time before he replaces MS Dhoni in the shortest format of the game at least.
