MUST READ! When fans mistook Pune City FC goalkeeper Edel Bete as Chris Gayle

New Delhi: India and its obsession with cricket often leads to some bizarre off-field incidents.

One of such incidents happened recently when the former Atletico de Kolkata and Chennaiyian FC goalkeeper Edel Bete was mistaken to be Chris Gayle during the FC Pune City's visit to the Dagdu Sheth Ganpati mandal.

As reported by India Today - dressed in orange and cream traditional Indian outfit, Edel was busy taking selfies with fans until the Gayle whispers started spreading.

When a team management personnel showed him Gayle's photograph, the Cameroon born Armenian footballer hardly knew who the West Indian cricketer was and he was back to his usual chores after this eyebrow raising incident.

Bete has won the Indian Super League on two previous occasions, both with the Kolkata and Chennai franchise and will be hoping to do the same in Pune too.

The incident didn't distract Edel from deviating from Ganesh darshan, where he was clapping happily during the aarti and settled so well with the crowd as if he has been celebrating the festival ever since.

The new Indian Super League season kicks off on October 1, with FC Pune City playing there first game on October 3rd at home against Mumbai City FC.

Pune has been struggling at the bottom of the table for the last two season and will be hoping Edel's arrival boosts an up-turn in fortunes for the new campaign.
