New Delhi: England desperately needed rain gods to intervene and wash out the final day's play in the third Test against Australia at the WACA in Perth on Monday, but it didn't happen. Australia wiped out the last six English wickets quickly after the rain delay to win the match by an innings and 41 runs, thereby reclaiming the Ashes. It followed a mocking tweet on England batting by former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, which was enjoyed and criticised in equal measure by the Twitterati.

The win gave Australia an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Manjrekar framed his scathing comment around Mitchell Starc's delivery that's being hailed as the 'Ball of the Ashes' by some and 'Ball of the Century' by others. It claimed England batsman James Vince who had no clue as the ball moved off the pitch before ramming into his stumps.

"As long as we have English batsmen, we will have balls of the century," Manjrekar tweeted.

While some of the twitter users enjoyed Manjrekar's sarcasm, others couldn't stomach it as their angry responses suggest.

Bowling legend and former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram too was left mesmerized with Starc's delivery and referred to it as a "Jaffa".

"That’s called a JAFFA! What a delivery @mstarc56 you reminded me of my bowling days and I enjoyed it to the hilt! You made left armers proud!" Akram tweeted
