Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble are my favourite captains: Virender Sehwag
Earlier, during a talk show arranged to commemorate India’s 500 Tests, Ganguly hailed Sehwag for changing the way Test cricket was played.
New Delhi: In the ongoing three-match Test series against New Zealand, several renowned Indian cricketers are a part of the commentary team.
But one cricketer, which guarantees entertainment unlike others, is Virender Sehwag.
Apart from enthralling the spectators with his funny pun-liners, Sehwag has also been sharing interesting anecdotes from his playing days.
On Day 4 of the second Test between India and New Zealand, former wicketkeeper batsman Deepdas Gupta asked Sehwag about his favourite skipper. (Virender Sehwag changed the way Test cricket was played: Sourav Ganguly)
The Delhi batsman does not shy away from sharing his piece of mind and he did exactly that as he mentioned names of two stalwarts of Indian cricket - Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble.
Viru said that while Ganguly backed him throughout as his tenure as captain, Kumble threw his weight behind him after he was dropped from the Indian squad.
Despite MS Dhoni winning all ICC trophies for India, the Prince of Kolkata is widely regarded as India's finest skipper as a result of his brilliant performances while leading the team overseas.
Ganguly consistently backed players like Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and they all owe a lot of their success to their brave skipper.
Earlier, during a talk show arranged to commemorate India’s 500 Tests, Ganguly hailed Sehwag for changing the way Test cricket was played. (Not only in Tweets but Virender Sehwag is also the master of commentary – Here's Why!)
“You look at modern-day openers who are criticised for not getting runs quickly. It was all started by Virender Sehwag and Mathew Hayden. To a certain extent even Justin Langer, but in Tests these two changed the definition of batting,” Ganguly said.
During the same event, Sehwag, who remains to be the only Indian batsman to score a triple ton, hailed Ganguly for backing players like him to the hilt.
“I never had fear because my captain (Ganguly) would always back me. I also knew that the batsmen after me were all great. The likes of Rahul (Dravid), Sachin (Tendulkar), Sourav (Ganguly), (VVS) Laxman, M.S. Dhoni were there, so I could relax,” Sehwag said.
