New Delhi: To mark India's historic 500th Test, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested fans to send in their greatest Test XI.
With 285 players having earned India's Test cap since 1932, the job for picking a Dream Team wasn't easy.
Not just fans but the likes of Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Manjrekar too selected their preferred teams during the telecast of the 1st Test.
The Indian board put out the final results on the 5th Day of the Kanpur Test. It is safe to suggest that the cricket-mad Indian public participated enthusiastically in this unique exercise.
The Dream Team drafted by BCCI, on the basis of votes, had one major surprise. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly didn't even make it as the 12th man of the side.
Left-hander Yuvraj Singh, who was never a permanent member of India's Test side, polled 62% of the votes and was named as the 12th man.

Yuvi played 40 Tests for India, scoring 1900 at an average of 33.92. The 34-year-old has 3 tons and 11 fifties to his name.
On the other hand, Ganguly donned the Indian whites on 113 occasions scoring 7212 runs at an average of 42.17. The stylish left-hander hit 16 centuries and 25 tons.
Hence the selection of Yuvraj over Ganguly infuriated the latter's fans. Taking to social micro-blogging site Twitter, they lambasted the Indian cricket board.

Not just Ganguly, but players like Harbhajan Singh, Dilip Vengsarkar and even Virat Kohli deserved to get the nod ahead of Yuvraj is what the majority felt.
Kohli and company however, made sure there was no such controversy on the pitch, as the home side wrapped up the 1st Test with a 197-run win.
