New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev is widely regarded as one of India's finest skippers ever.

While he was a brilliant pacer, the Haryana-born cricketer had got his team out of precarious circumstances with the bat as well on numerous occasions.

In one of the Tests against England, in reply to a total of 653/4, Kapil and his men were wobbling at 430/9 as they needed another 24 runs to avoid follow on.

For company, Kapil had Narendra Hirwani at the non striker's end, which meant the skipper had to take the charge. (VIDEO: When Rahul Dravid dismissed Gary Kirsten, Lance Klusener off two consecutive balls)

While the England bowlers were looking for that one final wicket, Kapil launched an incredible counter-attack.

Facing spinner Eddie Hemmings, Kapil launched him for four consecutive sixes to accomplish what looked like an impossible task.

After hitting the fourth six, Kapil pointed his fist towards the Indian dressing room which was already on its feet to applaud their skipper's brave act. (WATCH: When furious Inzamam-ul-Haq attacked an Indian fan who called him 'aloo', 'motu')

Kapil walked back unbeaten on 77 from 75 balls, with 8 fours and 4 sixes.

While he went on to score many more crucial knocks for the Indian team in future, those four sixes were etched in the minds of cricket fans forever.
