New Delhi: The Indian cricket team will play its 500th Test match on Thursday against New Zealand in Kanpur.
To mark this occasion, Cricket Australia conducted a poll to pick India's Greatest Test XI.
The initiative received a solid response with over 50,000 fans making their voice heard.
As expected, the Big Five of Indian batting made the cut. So did two cricketers from a previous generation - Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.
One big surprise was the fact that current Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli found no place in the side.
Despite being severely criticized for his performance in whites, former Test captain MS Dhoni too was voted in by the fans.
Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan formed India's bowling attack in this side.
With Dravid and Tendulkar batting at number three and four respectively, the only chance for Kohli to make this team was if either Laxman or Ganguly were kept out.
For the 5th batting position, Laxman (37%) beat Kohli (27%), while Dada (25%) edged out the Delhi batsman (16%) for the sixth position.
