Parking in streets and open spaces in residential areas could soon be chargeable

The civic agencies will also have to identify and provide exclusive night parking places for parking of e-rikshaws they will also have to provide charging points.

New parking policy aimed at reducing the number of cars on road in favour of public transport .

Delhi maintenance and management of parking Rules,is likely to be implemented in March 2018 which was approved by Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal.

As per the rules, the base rules,the base parking fee will be decided by an apex monitoring committee to be headed by the transport commissioner. The rules are different for on-street and off-street parking. Owners of vacant plots in residential colonies will be allowed to turn the space into a parking area

A government official said, “Parking in market areas during peak hours will get expensive . This is to ensure that shop owners do not park their cars on the street for the entire day ,leaving no space for others and also those who have built stilt parking in their houses but park their vehicles on the streets would be panalised”

The civic agencies will also have to identify and provide exclusive night parking places for parking of e-rikshaws they will also have to provide charging points. An apex Monitoring Committee will be set up to review the implementation and compliance of these rules.
