Los Angeles: American Rapper 50 Cent has been charged with domestic violence and vandalism for allegedly kicking his ex-girlfriend and damaging her property during a dispute at her home.
Police officers were called to the property, where the woman claimed she locked herself in bedroom after she got into an altercation with 50 Cent. But the rapper kicked down the door and hit her, resulting in an injury, reported TMZ Online.
The rapper, who is facing five charges, including one count of misdemeanour domestic violence and four counts of misdemeanour vandalism, reportedly left the house before police arrived.
"During an argument, Jackson allegedly began destroying the female`s property. Allegedly when the female locked herself in her bedroom, Jackson kicked-open the bedroom door and kicked her, causing an injury," said Los Angeles City Attorney said in a statement.
When police arrived at the house, they found broken chandeliers, furniture, TV set and a lamp all over the place. The bedroom was allegedly ransacked with clothes thrown all over the floor. The rapper was estimated to have caused USD 7,100 in damage during his alleged rage.
The alleged victim was identified as a woman who "had previously been in a three-year relationship with Jackson and they have a child in common."
"The altercation apparently started from an allegation of infidelity on her part," LA City Attorney spokesman said.
If convicted, the award-winning star, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, could face up to five years in jail and USD 46,000 in fines. He is set to appear in court on July 22.
