Beware! Your boss may be spying on you at work

It has emerged that employers are spying on workers through secret surveillance cameras.

Melbourne: It has emerged that employers are spying on electricians, plumbers, pool cleaners and childcare workers through secret surveillance cameras and mobile phone and road toll records.
According to the Telegraph, the Australian Workers` Union has launched a campaign to stop companies monitoring their employees` movements in work hours. AWU assistant secretary Stephen Bali said changes needed to be made to the Workplace Surveillance Act because plumbers, electricians and others in the service industry were being monitored by GPS in their cars or phones. "Child care centres are introducing a service to parents so they can keep an eye on the kids via camera, which is in itself is a good initiative," Bali said. "But, essentially, if a manager has a beef with one of the workers it becomes another way to observe them. No one wants to be observed 24 hours a day. "GPS tracking of employees is creating unrest in the workplace as the issue of trust and spying is creating tension between workers and management. "The current act doesn`t allow staff members to perform their duties without the fear and uncertainly of who and when someone may be monitoring them," added Bali. ANI
