Chandrakant Gharote appointed as member of CBFC

General secretary of Sanskar Bharti, Chandrakant Gharote, has been appointed as a member of the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) by the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

New Delhi: General secretary of Sanskar Bharti, Chandrakant Gharote, has been appointed as a member of the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) by the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

For the uninitiated, Sanskar Bharati is a cultural outfit affiliated to RSS.

While speaking to ANI, Gharote was quoted as saying, "Art is a strong medium to bring about change in society.”

He further said, "Will perform to best of my capabilities, just want to work with dedication for welfare of society."

However, the opposition was quick to point out that this follows the several steps taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to 'saffronise academics and art' in the country.

According to a report in TOI, Gharote is said to have close ties with Kanchan Gadkari, head of the Nagpur unit of Sanskar Bharti, and wife of Union minister Nitin Gadkari.

The fresh controversy comes at a time when the government's move to appoint Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the Pune-based Film and Television Training Institute (FTTI) has drawn sharp criticism.
