London: Hollywood hunk George Clooney will testify in one of Silvio Berlusconi’s trials in which three of his associates are accused of recruiting prostitutes for his infamous ‘bunga bunga’ parties.
The actor is among nearly 200 people who will be called as witnesses for the trial starting next week, the Telegraph reported. Clooney, who said he has met the Italian former prime minister on only one occasion, is expected to be called by defence lawyers to support their contention that Berlusconi’s dinner parties were elegant affairs devoid of impropriety or sexual behaviour. The actor and director, who had a meeting with Berlusconi to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, said last month he would testify if he was called but had never been to a party. The outgoing prime minister is already on trial for alleged abuse of office and paying to have sexual relations with Karima El Mahroug, a Moroccan-born exotic dancer whom prosecutors claim was working as an underage prostitute. It resumes on Nov 23. But on Monday a parallel trial will start in a court in Milan, involving accusations of procuring prostitutes. ANI
