New Delhi: Bollywood actor John Abraham has lent his name to PowerLight A Village, an initiative to provide solar electricity to remote villages across the country. He has urged his fans to join in the effort.
The social campaign has been launched by Garnier Men, which has kept true to its tagline `take care`.
"This is an amazing and powerful initiative, which will help us spread light across hundreds of villages by using natural resources like solar energy. I urge all my fans to get out and make difference and `take care` of not only themselves but the ones around them as well," John said in a statement.
Garnier Men has collaborated with Chirag Rural Development Foundation (Project Chirag) as their implementation partner. The foundation has been championing the cause of rural electrification and has been instrumental to cater to over 125 Indian villages.
The initiative will provide villagers with one solar lamp that also has an in-built mobile charging unit, one solar tube light and one solar panel to charge their equipment.
The campaign aims at creating awareness among consumers to contribute through their pledges on social media. It will be driven via digital, allowing Garnier Men`s Facebook followers to contribute virtually to the electrification drive.
Every like, share and comment will contribute a predetermined unit of energy.
