New Delhi: Sidharth Sinha of N&S GAIA made his debut on day three of the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week, Friday 14th March 2014 With the support of the Govt. of Meghalaya, N&S GAIA reiterated hand-woven textiles of the state in their collection.
Starring vivacious ensembles drawing inspiration from Northeast`s colonial heritage, Vintage Assam Bungalows to the Victorian architecture left behind by The British Raj. The runway collection promises atmosphere of this historic state inducing surreal dreams of the art and culture of days past, which designer Sidarth has represented in this collection. In keeping with the theme of the day at Lakme Fashion Week, Sidharth Sinha committed in using natural fibers to produce sustainable and essential fabrics for their products, as a tribute to the environment. The fabrics used in the entire ensemble were 100 % hand woven with natural dying techniques. Fusing contemporary with traditional, the collection also beautifully merged Ikat pattern which was weaved for the first time in Meghalaya, with Cotton, Eri and Muga blends. The most striking aspect was the precious craft of Meghalaya “Dakmanda” (hand picking pattern to produced fine intricate hand plucked embroidery in the weaving process). This collection is a tribute to the weavers and craftsmen of the state of Meghalaya. The hand-woven fabric saw a great demonstration of the weaver’s craft which was accessorized in vibrant colors and fluidity of shapes by Fused Glass art contemporary handcrafted jewelry by Bangdar Sarali.
