The sixth day of Navratra is dedicated to Katyayani, the sixth form of Durga.

The various forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped during the nine auspicious days of Navratri. Stree Shakti or woman power is celebrated. Women and men dressed in their fineries express their devotion by chanting shlokas dedicated to the mighty Goddesses and in the evening take part in Dandiya and Garbha dance events.

The sixth day of Navratra is dedicated to Katyayani, the sixth form of Durga. Katyayani was born to Sage Katya of the Katya clan, and hence her name reiterates that same fact. The epitome of love and anger, the idols of Katyayani are portrayed as ones with four arms and three eyes, and mounted on a lion.

Here's a mantra dedicated to Goddess Katyayani:

कात्यायनि महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरि । नन्द गोपसुतं देविपतिं मे कुरु ते नमः ॥

Katyayani Mahamaye Mahayoginyadheeshwari

Nandgopsutam Devipatim Me Kuru Te Namah
