Prince William is no ‘king’ when it comes to taking street hockey penalties!

Prince William’s courtship of Canada was taken up a notch yesterday when he decided to take penalties in a game of street hockey, or ‘shinny.’

Yellowknife: Prince William’s courtship of Canada was taken up a notch yesterday when he decided to take penalties in a game of street hockey, or ‘shinny’, in Yellowknife.
The man second in line to the British throne was given three shots in an organized shinny game with young people. However, Prince William’s luck in the country ran out when he faced 6ft 3in goal-minder Calvin Lomen. The goalie made two saves and the prince missed the net on the third, The Telegraph reports. “I tried giving him one. He said, ‘Please let the ball go into the net.’ But it hit my stick instead and I wound up saving it,” Lomen said. The Duchess, meanwhile, said: “I would have taken a shot if I wasn’t wearing high heels.” The Royal couple was experiencing the sights, sounds and traditions of Canada’s native peoples after arriving in Yellowknife on the sixth day of their tour of the Commonwealth realm.
