Tamar Van Den Dop wins best director at KIFF

Dutch filmmaker Tamar Van Den Dop was adjudged best director for her film 'Supernova' at the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival, which came to an end today.

Kolkata: Dutch filmmaker Tamar Van Den Dop was adjudged best director for her film 'Supernova' at the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival, which came to an end today.

The best film award was jointly won by Rakshan Banietemad of Iran for 'Tales' and Najwa Najjar of Palestine for 'Eyes of the Thief'.

The Jury Award (Special mention) went to Shira Gaffen of Israel for her film 'Self Made'. The winners were presented with the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger trophy trophies.

This was the first time that the Kolkata Film Festival started a competitive section where 15 films made by women directors were shortlisted and screened.

The director of the jury was noted Australian film director Paul Cox and Indian film maker Amol Palekar was also a member.

The festival was inaugurated by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee along with Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Tanuja and Irrfan Khan and others on November 10.

The closing ceremony was attended by Bollywood actor and choreographer Farah Khan.
