Los Angeles: American actress Zoe Saldana's husband Italian artist Marco Perego has taken her last name, in a surprising departure to the age-old practice of a girl taking her husband's surname after marriage.

Zoe, who got married to Perego in 2013 and has twin sons, Bowie Ezio and Cy Aridio with him, said she had reservation about his decision, reported E! Online.

"I tried to talk him out of it. I told him, If you use my name you are going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world. But Marco looks up at me and says, 'Ah, Zoe, I don't give a damn'," she said.

"Since I have been with Marco, I have been lowering my guard. Finally when we had our boys I looked at my husband and I realized I was meant for you and you were meant for me" she added.

The 36-year-old "Infinitely Polar Bear" actress said she was always comfortable around men till they were friends but with Perego, she has finally found comfort of being with a lover.

"Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover. I do not want to be separate. I want my church. I want to live inside the religion of our own little family." she said.
