Amitabh Bachchan inaugurates Dadasaheb Phalke's mural in Mumbai

Mumbai: A life-size mural of father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke, was inaugurated here today by Amitabh Bachchan on the city's prominent MTNL Building at Bandra Reclamation.

Bachchan, 72, unveiled the 120x150 foot mural of Phalke on the sidelines of St+art Mumbai Festival.

"Inaugurated a mural 150'x120' of Dada Saheb Phalke, the founder of film in India, 1913, on the MTNL building at Bandra... Inspiring," Bachchan posted on Twitter.

Phalke was an Indian producer-director-screenwriter, who made 'Raja Harishchandra' (1913), known as India's first full-length feature. He made 95 movies and 26 short films in his 19-year-old career.

"I'm delighted that of the many such projects there is one dedicated to Dadasaheb Phalke - The father of Indian Cinema. I salute the artist Ranjit Dahiya and the entire St+art team," said Piyush Pandey, executive chairman and creative director for Ogilvy & Mather India and South Asia.

The most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to cinema, was instituted in his honour after his death.
