`Chalo Dilli` is different from `Bheja Fry`: Vinay Pathak

Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak says his role in his upcoming film `Chalo Dilli` is different from his hugely popular character in `Bheja Fry`.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak says his role in his upcoming film `Chalo Dilli` is different from his hugely popular character in `Bheja Fry`.
The actor who is famous for his critically acclaimed roles in off-beat movies, plays the role of Manu Gupta, a Chandni Chowk resident, running a saree shop in Karol Bagh. With habits like burping and pan chewing, he meets the ultra sophisticated Mihika Mukherjee (Lara Dutta) in their journey from Mumbai to Delhi. Pathak, who found praise for his role as Bharat Bhushan in `Bheja...`, insists that inspite of his popularity as a comedian, he is involved with different characters everytime. "I am getting typcast by the way people want to percieve me, like in that particular (comedy) avatar. But I think I tell stories in my films in different ways always. Both the characters are different from one another. This film is not `Bheja Fry`," said Pathak. Elaborating on the story of `Chalo Dilli`, Pathak says that in his new film, both he and Dutta engage in getting onto each other`s nerve, unlike `Bheja...` where only he enjoyed that prerogative. "It is about two opposite people and their journey. The kind of people they are is what makes the story interesting. Its different from `Bheja...` because there are times when Lara gets on my nerve and vice versa.. so we both kind of fry each other`s brain in the movie, unlike in `Bheja.., where only I had the prerogative to bore people," added Pathak. The `Dasvidaniya` star justifies his choice of roles saying that he believes in telling stories in his films and if the audience have tagged him as a comedian, he would work to change it. "I have tried to depict different stories differently. I acknowledge the fact that people have started believing that I do only comedy and I will try to change it. But I will keep telling stories every time I get an oppurtunity," said Pathak. The actor would be seen sharing the screen for the first time with Lara Dutta. Scheduled to release on April 29, `Chalo Dilli` also stars Akshay Kumar in a cameo and Yana Gupta in an item song. Shashant Shah of `Dasvidaniya` fame has directed the film. PTI
