Mumbai: ‘Rockstar’ Ranbir is all set to turn a mathematician! Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is believed to have said yes for a biopic about the inspiring life of a mathematician from Bihar. The film, which is still in its initial stage, will be made by ace filmmaker Anurag Basu.
Incidentally, Basu is directing Ranbir’s upcoming ‘Barfee’ as of now.
According to a source, Anurag Basu, while wrapping up ‘Barfee’, was quietly researching on Anand Kumar`s life.
Anand Kumar, a 38 year-old mathematician from Patna, who hailed from an underprivileged background, contributed to top scientific journals and papers. His father worked as a clerk and Kumar completed his education while helping his mother sell papads.
Industry experts feel if Basu’s biopic would be a rip-off of Hollywood block buster ‘The Beautiful Mind’, where the protagonist Russel Crowe played a mathematician despite suffering from paranoid schizophrenia?
But, a source said that it will be far different from that.
Basu was reportedly blown over when he learnt about Kumar`s background and his contribution to maths and society.
When contacted, Basu said, "I`ve been to Patna frequently to meet someone on whom I plan to make a film. Beyond that, I can`t say much."
Anand Kumar has been the subject of several documentaries and is well known for his Super 30 programme, which has helped several economically disadvantaged students bag admission into top institutes like the IITs.
“Anurag has spoken to Ranbir about Anand. And Ranbir is eager to get into the heart and mind of the mathematician,” said the source.
