Mumbai: A film on Indian woman boxer MC Mary Kom is on the cards. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be backing this project very enthusiastically. The script has been prepared by Omung Kumar, who has left no stone unturned in terms of the research required for this inspiring biopic. Mary Kom made India proud after winning a bronze medal at the recently concluded London Olympics. But, the idea of making a film on the living legend didn’t germinate from her latest achievement. SLB confirmed that Omung had come up with the script on Mary long before she went to participate in the Olympics. Incidentally, Omung had also approached Kom a year ago to get her nod for the project. While Mary is known to have given a green signal, Sanjay is expected to meet the boxer soon. Talking about Kom and the project, Bhansali said in an interview, “I was moved by her story. She is a mother of two, has been through so many struggle, has tremendous spirit and a sense of living and dignity and is now a World Champion. She has what it takes to make a great champion.” “An Indian woman boxer is rare. It will be an exciting film to produce and I am very happy to do it”. Bhansali added. The movie on Kom is supposed to go on floors by this year-end or early next year, sources said.
