Mumbai: A Marathi feature film on Khashaba Jadhav, India`s first individual Olympic medallist, is in the offing.
The shooting for the film on Jadhav, who won a wrestling bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, will begin around July, senior journalist Chandrakant Shinde on whose story the film is based, said. Shinde, who met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to discuss the project, said the NCP leader had assured all possible support to the venture. "Pawar said he would be speaking to the Chief minister on the issue," said Shinde, who has been working on the subject for over two years. Jadhav, son of wrestler Dadasaheb Jadhav, died in 1984 in a motorcycle accident at Karad in Satara district of western Maharashtra. Asked who would play Khashaba Jadhav`s character, Shinde said popular film and TV actor Siddharth Jadhav is a tentative choice. The film would be completed by the year-end and released in January next year, he said. PTI
