Shraddha Kapoor to play lead alongside Sidharth Malhotra in ‘The Villain’

New Delhi: While ‘Aashiqui 2’ continues to rake in the moolah, lead actress of the Vishesh Films’ romantic saga – Shraddha Kapoor – has clinched another laurel for herself. If reports are to be believed, the pretty lass has been roped in to play the lead across Sidharth Malhotra in Ekta Kapoor’s ‘The Villain’. Confirms an insider, “Yes, she (Shraddha) has been selected to play the leading lady, opposite to Sidharth Malhotra. After ‘Aashiqui 2’ turning out to be a huge hit, Shraddha is in demand now.” Mohit Suri, who was behind ‘Aashiqui 2’, will be donning the director’s hat for ‘The Villain’ too. The hunt for the lead actress had been going on for quite some time now – given the fact that the actor had been zeroed in on a while back. Adds our insider, “Post the success of ‘Aashiqui 2’, Shraddha Kapoor was considered the best for the role. Both Mohit and Ekta are convinced that she’s best suited for the character.” While ‘Aashiqui 2’ was declared a huge hit within a few days of its release earlier this year, Sidharth Malhotra’s last, Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’, had managed to turn in great business last year. The screenplay of ‘The Villain’ has been penned by Tushar Hiranandani (of ‘ABCD’ fame) and the dialogues have been written by Milap Zaveri, whose last – ‘Shootout At Wadala’ – garnered a lot of praise from critics and audiences alike.
