New Delhi: Hailing the young crop of writers in Hindi, noted playwright and novelist Syed Asghar Wajahat says good and innovative writing has emerged recently in cinema because of them.
Wajahat has himself written the story for filmmaker Muzaffar Ali`s movies `Gaman` and `Aagman`.
"Writing has changed in recent times. A lot of new and challenging subjects have come to the fore and it is a welcome step. Hindi writing is very strong because the new generation is contributing a lot," Wajahat told reporters. The 67-year-old writer`s much acclaimed Partition drama `Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya..` is being adapted into film by director Rajkumar Santoshi. Wajahat feels as far as film-writing based on Hindi literature is concerned, a proper link between the two worlds is missing. "The link to connect Hindi literature and cinema, which should have been there, is yet to be established. Both should endeavour to work in close link and understand each other. It is only after that a proper communication can be established between them," he said. Wajahat, who is not a film-writer, said despite several good people in cinema, it is a different world. "That (film industry) is a different world. There are many good people in that world with whom you can connect but it still remains different," said Wajahat. The prolific writer, whose play `Gandhi@Godse.Com` gained huge popularity, is currently busy writing his next based on the life of poet-saint Tulsidas. Wajahat said that a writer`s work is to remark the happenings in the society. "A writer comments on the events transpiring in the society, brings out the good and bad that occur in society. It is like `social interference` which a writer keeps doing every now and then," he said. Author of several plays and books, Wajahat believes that there are other medium of `social interference` but writing leaves more impact on people. "Creating interest among readers should be the main objective in writing, it could be done seriously, with satire or with comedy. Readers should be focus and their interest is important." "Satire and humour has attracted more people. Beauty, drama and action also attracts people deciding what befits the topic is individual decision," he said.
