Born to Asha (school teacher) and Amardeep Ranaut (businessman), this small town beauty made big in the B-town with her debut hit Gangster. She has an elder sister and a younger brother.

She did her schooling from DAV, Chandigarh, and later moved to Shimla to complete her high school. Her dream of being a model brought her to Delhi, where she joined Elite Modelling Agency. After the failed attempt she went on to join Asmita Theatre group (2003-2005) as a theater actor. She also joined Asha Chandra`s acting school to groom her acting skills. In between she also toured Mumbai to try her luck in the tinsel town but then returned to Delhi to complete her studies. After struggling for about two years she was spotted by Anurag Basu who gave her the big break.
