The year witnessed several developments which in future would be remembered, at least in the pages of political history, for achieving a milestone. The critics may differ but the signing of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President George W Bush has opened a new vista of strategic partnership and a shift in South Asian politics. Although visits by several heads of the states to India kept the diplomatic circles agog, opposition parties were busy in weighing political ramifications of each development. Besides, a few historic judicial verdicts, which would certainly scare those who earlier thought that they could play with law, have resurrected people’s faith in the system as well as in themselves.
