There is a gay character in `Independence Day 2`: Director Roland Emmerich

Los Angeles: German filmmaker Roland Emmerich has confirmed returning to the sequel of `Independence Day`, tentatively titled `ID Forever Part 1`.
Emmerich, who has made films such as `The Day After Tomorrow` and `2012`, reveals that there will be a special character appearing on the follow-up to the 1996 flick, reported Aceshowbiz. "Actually in the next `Independence Day`, there is a gay character," says Emmerich, who is known as an outspoken gay rights activist and openly gay himself. Refusing to give further details of the character, the 57-year-old director later confirms that Bill Pullman is indeed back to the second film as Thomas J Whitmore. While Pullman is confirmed to return to the sequel, Will Smith apparently won`t be up for it. "Will Smith cannot come back because he`s too expensive, but he`d also be too much of a marquee name," Emmerich said. The `White House Down` filmmaker revealed that he got "like maybe half of the people that you would know from the first film and the other half people who are new" in the script that is currently being polished by James Vanderbilt. Twentieth Century Fox has already set ‘Independence Day 2’ to be released nationwide on July 3, 2015. PTI
