Los Angeles: An upcoming zombie-themed TV series based on George Romero's comic books "Empire of the Dead" is being developed by Demarest.

This upcoming series would compete with other series under zombie genre such as "The Walking Dead" and its spin-off "Fear the Walking Dead", reported Ace Showbiz.

First published in January 2014, "Empire of the Dead" is similar to Romero's previous work, "Living Dead", which featured zombie.

"Empire of the Dead" tells a story about the situation in New York City after the un-dead plague has exploded. The synopsis says that though Manhattan has been quarantined, vampires and zombies apparently swarm in the Big Apple to terrorize the city.

The TV adaptation will be written by Romero and Peter Grunwald. Both of them will also executive produce the series along with Sam Englebardt and William D Johnson.

"Empire of the Dead" is a 15-issue miniseries which is divided into three 5-issue acts.
