No ‘Satyameva Jayate’ for Karnataka! Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: The much anticipated and eagerly awaited TV show ‘Satyameva Jayate’ might not be able to make much of an impact in Karnataka. Aamir Khan’s show, which has created tremendous ripples all over the country, what with powerful advertisements and several first-times for a serial, is a complete no-no down South.

Aamir Khan’s debut on TV has been chopped off from the television schedules in Karnataka, and the state will not be able to watch the show due to a self-imposed, self-enforced ban. Karnataka’s ban on dubbed serials is the reason the state will miss out on Aamir’s ‘Satyameva Jayate’. The embargo, which doesn’t appear anywhere, is one which doesn’t allow a dubbed version of any serial or movie to telecast in the state. However, the Kannada Film Industry does approve Kannada remakes of the same.

Ravi Kiran, the President of Karnataka Television Association, said: “Out of 58 serials on air every day, you have so much production, post-production etc. So many people are involved, and they depend on this. Once dubbing comes, half the programmes will be imported. All actors will become dubbing actors.”

Viewers have been fuming over the ban, and believe that the serial should be made available in all languages. Says a Bangalore resident: “If it comes in all languages, it will be better understanding for all the people and it will help us unite with our fellow countrymen.”

‘Satyameva Jayate’ airs on television on 6th May, 2012.

khan sir, sach me dil pe lagi....... - chirag - rajpipla
hi khan first time in india someone did good work in realy very big essu in india i have two gris and i am only 26years old and do not want any more kids frist time feel that someone can change india well done with your work - rimpi sidhu - Australia
Aamir should raise this kind of issue in his show too. What a stupid nation we are living in. Where People are banned to see a television show of their National language. If rdisrespecting national flag is a crime, disrespecting national language should be treated the same. You CANNOT ban a tv serial in india because it is in Hindi. If you have so much issue with dubbing, shut down all the multiplexes (If you have the guts). Karnataka people are well educated enough to understand Hindi. Its only such useless policies that will never make India ONE. Raise your voice people or be ready to see many more dictators screwing your life in future. This is just begining.... - Sandeep - Mumbai
Thats good move by tv association to ban dubbed serials. I equate dubbed serials to outsourced business, at the end of the day if serials are dubbed its the poor production boys and their families who suffer as there will be no work. However, I think this particular show by Aamir is an exception, a honest effort to reach the hearts of people and not worrying about TRP and stuff, availability of the serial on national broadcaster DD is an example of it. If its available in kannada the beneficiaries will be the ppl in rural areas who have trouble understanding Hindi at this moment. My only request is to make the tv show available in all regional languages in India and the message accessible to each indivisual. One of the things the world respects our country is because we have "UNITY IN DIVERSITY". - Chethan - Bangalore
What is the actual meaning of ban in Karnataka? No TV channel in karnataka will telecast 'Satyamevajayate' in any other language other than Kannada in Karnataka? No matter if the serial dubbed in Kannada is omitted, since all those know only Kannada know Hindi and remaining people know any of the southern Indian languages including Marathi and Konkani. Ravi Kiran's or the association's opinion clarifies that Kannadigas have no creative ideas to produce TV serials in Kannada more competent than other languages to be preferred on TV channels, and so is the rule and deliberate imposition. It is a fact too. As per the survey the in north-east Karnataka 70% people prefer Telagu Tv serials, in north-west Karnataka 75%people prefer Hindi and Marathi serials, in South-east Karnataka 75% people prefer Tamil/Telagu Serials and in south-west Karnataka 65% people prefer Malayalam serials and in the central Karnataka Kannada is preferred that is too only 65%people and remaining people prefer any other languages preferably Hindi. The TRP for Kannada serials is so less that no other state in India has So low TRP for their regional language. It is not only because people of those regions are dual linguistic but even those whose mother tongue is Kannada too hardly like Kannada serial. When asked for the reason of their choice, they sadly say the quality is not good. It is note worthy that Maximum No.of Jynanpeeth award winners in India are Kannada Writers and Poets. If they improve technically and adopt current concepts and style properly then they can increase TRP for Kannada serials. Marathi too has TRP problems but not like that in Karnataka. - Vikas Nayak - Vasai, Mumbai.
What is the problem with these people? The show is going to be aired in hindi language and I see no harm in it because our national language is hindi. Why few people are becoming linguistic and they talk of uniting by wanting shows to be aired in their mother tongue???? - Aarohi - India
What I liked the most in this are the last few lines “If it comes in all languages, it will be better understanding for all the people and it will help us unite with our fellow countrymen.” Well said residents..... Need of time. - MUKESH - PUNE
come on guyz..i am a bangalorean.hindi is our national language ...no need of dubbing and all. do telecast it, it would be a worth show. y people dn't see international, national cricket in hindi huh? y dey dn't listen to politicians in hindi. if dey dn't understand hindi.its time for dem 2 learn hindi(its our national language) we dn't want our state 2 be another tamilnadu state where hindi is unknown 2 people. and wen it comes to better understanding .. bangloreans r better in getting used 2 it . - harshavardhan - bangalore
