IIFA 2012: Flash from the past of Bollywood’s international awards night!

New Delhi: One of Bollywood’s most popular awards show - Indian International Film Festival (IIFA) – celebrated its 13th year in Singapore in 2012 and how! There were fireworks, rib-tickling anchors, and starry stage performances to celebrate the occasion which aims to recognize and award achievers in the film industry. As the green carpet rolled out, biggies such as Neha Dhupia, Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha, Rekha, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir and Rishi Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Sonu Sood, Raveena Tandon and Vivek Oberoi were among the Bollyowood celebs who put their best foot forward. Shahid Kapoor opened the awards night by dashing in on a high-octane motorbike, cracked a hilarious joke before taking the stage, thereby leaving the audiences in splits. Shahid was soon joined by his co-host for the evening, Farhan Akhtar. The duo made sure they kept the viewers hooked with their antics. Of the ones who danced on-stage were Sonakshi Sinha, Bipasha Basu, Prabudeva and Shahid Kapoor. But the ones who literally stole the limelight were Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor. Rishi joined his son Ranbir on-stage in style. He added to the fun when he asked Ranbir: ‘Kya tumne kabhi kisi se pyaar kiya?’. Later, the father-son duo enthralled the audiences, who showered their support by cheering for the stars very loudly. Priyanka Chopra’s performance was also worth mentioning. She enthralled the audience with a touching tribute to yesteryear diva Rekha. She danced to some of her famous numbers like 'In aakhon ki masti mein'. Rekha was bestowed with the honour of outstanding achievement in Indian cinema and she thanked the filmmakers she had worked with for all that she had achieved. Yet again, the Bachchan family was absent for the fourth time in a row. Also, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan gave the awards evening a miss. Ranbir Kapoor and the lady in black Vidya Balan took home the best actor and actress baguette respectively and Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ made her win the best director’s trophy. The IIFA 2013 fever is on the rise with the date of the main event nearing. This time, The Venetian Macao will play host to Bollywood this time around. News is out that King Khan Shah Rukh will be hosting the show with Shahid Kapoor. And we know how much the duo is famous, thanks to their funny on-stage shenanigans. With so much more happening to make the event a night to remember, we just can’t wait to know more details about the big bash like who’s going to be party to the celebrations, who’s wearing what, etc.
