Melbourne: "Miss Lovely" fame Ashim Ahluwalia`s 2005 film "John & Jane" will be screened at the ongoing Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) here Sunday in the `India in Flux Living Resistance` category. The 63rd MIFF, which kicked off July 31, will continue till Aug 17.
Ahluwalia is happy that acea whole new generation of viewers can finally get to see the movie.
"`John & Jane` was my first film, and in a way defines the kind of filmmaking I love. When it was made, we barely had an independent film scene in India and so it couldn`t get a proper release," Ahluwalia said in a statement.
"But it is a very contemporary film, mixing documentary and science fiction, and probably too modern when it first came out. It showed in Toronto and Berlin and was the first Indian film ever to be sold to a leading international channel, but few people in India ever got to see it," he added.
"John & Jane" is a reminder, in its thoughtful, energizing and heightened tale of global commerce and personal compromise - all converging on a portrait of the voices of those selling, buying, persuading and resisting via call centres - of a strong and relevant tradition of documentary filmmaking in the country which continues to grow in recent times.
The film will be available for viewing on www.cineoo.com from Aug 15.
