Cow creates roadblock for ‘Mausam’?

Mumbai: The censor board has refused to clear the five promotional trailers of ‘Mausam’ on ‘humanitarian grounds’. One of the promos features a cow, and the censor board has instructed the makers of the film to get a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Animal Welfare Board first. Now, the cow in question is just there in one frame. It is not being ill treated or even milked, but passing by in a particular shot. But the censor board does not want to take any chances and have denied giving the film the green signal. Speaking to a daily, producer Sheetal Talwar issaid, "I understand any shot of an animal in a film has to be cleared by the Animal Welfare Board. For our film ‘Rakht Charitra’ we even had to get clearance from the Board for random street dogs that wandered into the frame. Fair enough. There`s a shot of a cow in ‘Mausam’. We are ready to get a clearance from the Animal Welfare Board for it." But Talwar wonders why all the five promos have been held back by the board. “The censors are welcome to hold back the trailer with the cow, until we get clearance. But why hold back all five trailers?" Pankaja Thakur, chief executive officer of the censor board said, "The regional officer in Mumbai, JP Singh, has examined the promos, and cleared all the same." However, Singh added, “The Animal Welfare Board`s NOC (no-objection certificate) is required in order to show animals on screen.” Oh well, guess only a ‘bovine’ intervention can save the makers of `Mausam` from all the running around!
