‘Dolly Ki Doli’ review: Sonam Kapoor stuns, film pure entertainer
Trending Photos
‘Dolly Ki Doli’ produced by Arbaaz Khan and directed by Abhishek Dogra is among those films, which have women as their protagonist. And in this film, we have Sonam Kapoor playing Dolly, the “looter bahu”.
It was evident from the trailer that Dolly is a “dulhan” who loots her husbands’ families and elopes with her accomplices (comprising of a fake father, mother, brother, photographer and a Pandit). And Sonam Kapoor as Dolly befits the character, thanks to her drop-dead gorgeous appearance.
It’s her beauty that catches her preys off guard. And she has a devout gang that hatches plots to con many more prospective grooms.
The film begins with Dolly and Sonu Sherawat’s (Rajkummar Rao) romance. A love-struck cane farmer from Haryana falls head-over-heels for this beauty and wants to make her his better half. The only son of his parents, Sonu convinces them to accept Dolly as their Bahu. And as they say “marriages are made in heaven”, Sonu and Dolly get married but sadly do not remain happy ever after!
Dolly executes her well-chalked out plan and flees with her gang to con yet another family. And when the Sherawat’s wake up in the morning after being made to drink drugged milk the previous night, they realise they have been duped by their “bahu”.
Sonu, who is badly smitten by Dolly’s love bug, tries to file a complaint with the police to look for his “missing” wife.
In the meanwhile, Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat), a police inspector has been entrusted with the responsibility of solving “Looteri Dulhan’s” case.
But Dolly is hardly perturbed. It’s her business to dupe men and rob them off all their belongings. She reaches Delhi and finds another rich boy Manjot, whose family is planning to get him married. She succeeds in making him fall in love with her and ties the knot with him. But little does Dolly know that she has a surprise in store for her.
As an actor, Sonam seems to be evolving with every film she is a part of. But she has lots more work to do to display her acting prowess. Pulkit Samrat is good as the “cupid-struck” cop and Varun Sharma is cute.
Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub as Sonam’s fake brother is brilliant and veteran actor Manoj Joshi too needs a special mention. For an actor of his calibre, playing a conman is no big challenge.
But the one who will sweep you off your feet is Rajkummar Rao. If you ever thought he isn’t meant for thumkas and latkas, then you were miserably wrong. This man is not just an actor par excellence but a very good dancer too! Wish he had some more screen time. And here’s a wolf-whistle for his typical Haryanvi accent.
Music is average and doesn’t add much to the storyline.
Dogra has done well to deliver a fun film that will challenge your logical reasoning. The film’s duration is a big plus, for we rarely have crisp Bollywood films that can entertain us in a short span of time.
Overall, despite glitches that test your sense of logic and actuality, ‘Dolly Ki Doli’ comes across an entertaining film.
