Mumbai: Her first film is yet to hit the screens, but Preeti Desai is making news owing to her alleged affair with Bollywood actor Abhay Deol. Now the model-turned-actress has found a perfect mantra to deal with it -- take it with a pinch of salt.
"I have been kind of preparing myself. I`ve been taking the stories with a pinch of salt. I find it quite amusing reading some stories which are just made up from thin air. So I just kind of let it be," Preeti told reporters in an interview.
The actress` debut film `Shor In The City` is slated for April 28 release.
"I`m still learning to deal with controversies, gossips and rumours. When I decided to enter the industry, a lot of people told me that this is part of it. So I kind of knew in the beginning that stuff will come out and people will make up things," said Preeti, who was Miss Great Britain 2006.
A lot has been written about her relationship with Abhay, but Preeti prefers to keep mum.
"Your personal life is personal. I don`t think I need to clarify anything. I don`t usually comment on my personal life. Let people say or write what they want to," she specified.
Born and brought up in Britain, Preeti came to Mumbai to start her modelling career and after a couple of projects and television commercials for brands like Cadbury, LG, Hero Honda, Citibank and Nokia, she is now ready for her Bollywood foray.
In the upcoming dark comedy, Preeti will play the love interest of Sendhil Ramamurthy. The film has been produced by Ekta Kapoor and also stars her brother Tusshar.
"I wasn`t auditioning for films. But my agent told me about this film because he knows what kind of work I want to do. So he told me to go for the auditions. I was not expected to speak a lot of Hindi and it is mainly English. So I went for it. Also I like the role and the script a lot," said the actress.
Also, since the actress has done TV commercials, she didn`t find doing a film very tough.
"I have done commercials, so I have been in front of the camera. It did make me camera- friendly. Modelling helped a lot because that made me confident while shooting for the film. I was not conscious, I just got on with what I needed to do. I found it quite easy," explained Preeti.
So is she ready for more films or will stick to modelling?
"I`m taking it easy right now. Don`t want to jump into things. I`m reading some scripts and meeting a couple of directors. I`m keen on doing roles that are meaningful. Also I`m quite happy with my modelling right now and `Shor..` hasn`t released; so I want to see people`s reaction to my performance first," said Preeti.
