Los Angeles: Disney`s animated fairy-tale `Frozen` ended its amazing reign at Japan`s box office with Angelina Jolie-starrer `Maleficent` rising on the top.`Frozen` ruled the box office in Japan for 16 weeks after opening in theaters on March 15, reportedly.
The film, about two sisters separated by the magical powers of the elder, became the highest grossing Disney film in Japan by earning more than USD 240 million while its global collection stands at more than USD 1.2 billion.
`Maleficent`, Disney`s latest live action take on the fairy-tale of `Sleeping Beauty`, has Jolie playing the role of evil fairy Maleficent.
The film opened to USD 7.0 million in Japan, making it the year`s biggest for a live-action movie in the territory.
It is also the biggest hit in Jolie`s career and has earned USD 630 million globally so far.
