Mumbai film fest to give award for quality writing on cinema

 To recognise quality writing on cinema the Mumbai Film Festival has announced a new award category - the Book Award for Excellence in Writing on Cinema.

Mumbai: To recognise quality writing on cinema the Mumbai Film Festival has announced a new award category - the Book Award for Excellence in Writing on Cinema.

The award covers works of fiction, graphic novel, creative non-fiction, reportage, analysis and screenplay, written in English or translated into English. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. The last date of submission is August 10.

"As a journalist and book author, it gives me pleasure to introduce the book award at MAMI Mumbai film festival. We need to preserve, document, archive and analyse our rich and diverse cinema culture. My hope is that this will help support and produce some stellar writing on Cinema," Anupama Chopra, Festival Director, Jio MAMI, said in a statement here.

Leading Publisher and Editor, Arpita Das (Yoda Press), is curating the award.

Along with Chairperson, Kiran Rao and festival director, Chopra, the members of the new Board of Trustees of MAMI are filmmakers Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, Vikramaditya Motwane, actor Riteish Deshmukh, actress Deepika Padukone and others.

Jio MAMI's Mumbai Film Festival will be held in Mumbai from October 29 to November 5.
