Rahman and ‘Jodha-Akbar’ sweep IIFA judges off their feet

AR Rahman has again wowed the judges and ‘Jodha Akbar’ bagged a total of eight awards.

Macau, June 13: AR Rahman has again wowed the judges and International Indian Film Academy awards function has started with his name among the winners. Historical ‘Jodha Akbar’ bagged a total of eight awards in the music and technical sections.
Director Ashutosh Govarikar and co-stars Hrithik and Aishwarya were all smiles at the dominance of ‘Jodha Akbar’ at the award function.Rahman won in the Best Music Direction and Best Background Score category while fellow Academy Award winner Resul Pookutty bagged the Best Sound Recording for Aamir’s action flick ‘Ghajini’. Pookutty delivered an emotive acceptance speech. He said to a nes daily, “It is very intimidating for a recording artist like me to receive an award in front of thousands of people. I dedicate this award to SK Sreedhar who was a mentor to both me and Rahman.” However, the audience could not see their favourite musician accept his award as Rahman had to miss the ceremony due to professional commitments. Singer Javed Ali`s `Jashan-e-Baharaa` from `Jodhaa Akbar` got the Best Playback Singer (Male) award and Javed Akhtar won in the Best Lyrics category for the same song. Singer Shreya Ghoshal won the Best Singer (Female) award for `Teri Ore` from `Singh Is Kinng`.
