Mumbai: Noted director Basu Chatterjee`s two super hit films `Shaukeen` (1982) and `Lakhon Ki Baat` (1984) are all set to join the list of Bollywood remakes.
`Lakhon Ki Baat` featuring Sanjeev Kumar, Farooq Shaikh and Anita Raj in pivotal roles is getting remade by filmmaker Rumi Jaffery, who made films like `Gali Gali Chor Hai`, `God Tussi Great Ho` among others.
"We have taken the rights of the film. I think it is one of the best films to be remade. The younger generation today is not aware of the classic hit films of those times and remakes are the best way to recreate the magic on screen again," Jaffery told reporters.
"Audience are also accepting good remake films. So I don`t see much problem remaking this film," he added.
Meanwhile, Jaffery will also be remaking `Shaukeen` which was also directed by Chatterjee, starring Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt, A K Hangal, Rati Agnihotri and Mithun Chakraborty.
"As of now, we have finalised Paresh Rawal, Anu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor will play the three mates originally played by Ashok Kumar, A K Hangal and Utpal Dutt" Jaffery said adding the film will go on floors by August.
"The basic element in both the films will more or less remain same. But we have slightly tweaked the original story, keeping in mind today`s requirements," he said.
Earlier, there were reports that actor Rohit Roy, was all set to remake `Shaukeen` but it seems he has lost out on the battle over the rights issue.
Jaffery said he plans to meet Chatterjee, the director of the original two films to seek his blessings.
