Mumbai: Filmmaker Prakash Jha says that his upcoming movie `Satyagraha` is not the story of Mahatma Gandhi or social activist Anna Hazare, but the essence is the same.
"Middle class people across the world protest if they are in a democracy. The film is not about Anna Hazare... There is no reflection of his protest. But the essence is with Nirbhaya (case), Mahatma Gandhi and Anna Hazare," Jha told reporters at an event here yesterday.
The Satyagraha team including Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpai, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao yesterday launched `Raghupati Raghav` song from the film.
"We have retained the initial lines of original prayer and added new lines keeping in mind the sentiments of people today," Jha said.
The director feels the film will entertain the audience. Jha said the film is not his attempt to provide solution.
In the film, Bachchan plays a man who is a firm believer of truth, he is like a new age Gandhi. Amrita Rao plays daughter-in-law of Big B. Ajay Devgn portrays an entrepreneur who uses the ways of the world to get what he wants while Kareena Kapoor is a hard headed TV reporter.
"My character isn`t inspired from any journalist. Dignity, and integrity is what I am. I can`t ask the questions like media asks," Kareena said.
In the movie, Arjun Rampal is showcased as a strong socially committed person who wants to become a politician. Manoj Bajpai plays the character of the wily young politician who uses all means to break the system.
Jha is all praise for his star cast, saying everyone has worked hard in the film.
`Satyagraha` is slated to release next month.
