Mumbai: The sequel of `Tanu Weds Manu` has got embroiled in a legal tangle between director Anand L Rai and producers trio of Vinod Bachchan, Sanjay Singh and Shailesh Singh.
Vinod today said he is sending a legal notice to Rai for announcing the sequel to 2011 romantic comedy without his consent.
"Aanand Rai is just a director and `Tanu Weds Manu` is our property. Hence he cannot continue with the film without our permission. He has been talking about making the sequel since two years but he has not met me yet. One partner has already sent him (Rai) a legal notice. I am sending him a notice today," Vinod, who is a co-producer of the movie, told.
Vinod holds a share of 51 per cent in the film, while his partners Sanjay Singh and Shailesh Singh hold the share of 24.5 per cent each.
"We have the rights, we have copyright over the film. How can he (Rai) make the film without talking to us. He had tried to negotiate with other partners on making the sequel but things did not work out," Vinod said.
"I am not against the sequel. We would be happy to make it but it should happen through proper process," he said.
Rai remained unavailable for comment.
Rai had announced that the sequel will have Ranaut in a double role.
Actors R Madhavan, Kangna Ranaut and Jimmy Shergill had played lead roles in the original hit version of 2011.
