New Delhi: After making social films like `Rang De Basanti` and `Delhi 6`, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is turning to comedy with his latest production `Teen Thay Bhai`, which he says completely desi in its appeal.
Mehra, who has produced the movie starring Om Puri, Shreyas Talpade and Deepak Dobrial, says is very rooted in its Indianness.
"`Teen Thay Bhai` is `desi` not just for the sake of it. It was the requirement of the subject that we bring in `desi` elements in the film`s screenplay. If there was an urban set of brothers then the story wouldn`t have worked and the film would have fallen apart," says Mehra, who handed over the reins of direction to first timer Mrigdeep Singh Lamba.
The film is about three brothers who are distanced by life and brought together by a clause in their Grandfather`s will at an isolated snowed-out cabin. How they battle love and life forms the crux of `Teen Thay Bhai`.
There is no item song to add glamour in the movie, which revolves around the antics of the three brother and Mehra admits that they went by instinct when it came to picking up the cast.
"We actually went by instinct when it came to casting. Of course there was a process behind it all but there was no conscious call. We did keep in mind that the three actors had to look compatible," he adds.
Once the principal cast was put together, there were workshops conducted to ensure that Puri, Talpade and Dobriyal became familiar with each other.
"A lot of hard work has been put together before the shooting. In fact our actors had come on board quite early and they spent good time brainstorming on how they would approach a scene.
"Once they became familiar with each other, chemistry started building in. This was very important because otherwise actors sometimes just land on sets and start reporting for the shoot without any preparations. None of that happened in case of `Teen Thay Bhai`," says Mehra who had last worked with a ensemble cast in `Delhi 6`.
In the film, the three brothers- a businessman (Om Puri), doctor (Deepak Dobriyal) and an actor (Shreyas Talpade) respectively - have their professions as well as age difference.
Also starring Ragini Khanna as the leading lady, `Teen Thay Bhai` is a co-production of PVR Pictures & Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures and releases on April 15.
