Mumbai: Ever since it was first revealed that Rakesh Roshan’s next film’s name would be ‘Kites’, people were left wondering as to what significance the title would have in the film! Hence, just to throw more light on the relevance of the title of his magnum opus, director Anurag Basu has come up with a detailed explanation. Anurag says, "We have used the title ‘Kites’ as a metaphor in the film. A kite flies against the winds and not with it and there is something similar which happens to the characters as well. They have their inherent weaknesses but they fight it all out. In fact, whatever disruptions come in the way of characters played by Hrithik and Barbara, their love for each other only becomes stronger. Inke ishq mein jitne rohde aate hai, woh utna hi gaadha ho jaata tha. However, what they don`t realise is that someone else is making them dance and the `dor` is in his hand." However, the director of the much-awaited flick admits that ‘Kites’ was not the decided title from the very beginning. "This was always a working title but we got very good response from everybody during the scripting itself. Moreover, this starts with the letter `K` which is lucky for Roshans", smiles Anurag. So, can we say that Anurag never really had a choice to select something of his own taste, much in line to the titles of his earlier films like ‘Murder’, ‘Gangster’ and ‘Life in a Metro’? Anurag responds nonchalantly, "I guess every film comes with its own destiny and this time, it indicated that we have ‘Kites’ as a title. In any case, it was hidden somewhere in my film`s script as well so I am more than pleased to have ‘Kites’ as the chosen one.” Made on an epic scale, and set primarily against the lavish backdrop of Las Vegas, ‘Kites’ tells the story of two star-crossed lovers who are destined to be together even though each is betrothed to another.
