Bengaluru: Bollywood lyricist and poet Sameer is hoping to get his name into the Guinness Book of World Records for penning down most number of film songs, surpassing late Anand Bakshi, one of his favourite songwriters.
"The Guinness Book of World Records did not have the category... They have opened it now. All the records and paperwork has been completed... I am just hoping for the best if I get it. This will not only be a matter of pride but also a pride for the country and the people with whom I have worked," Sameer told PTI.
Sameer said he has penned nearly 4,000 songs for as many as 640 films, surpassing Bakshi's milestone. "Till now, I have completed 640 films and penned nearly 4,000 songs. Bakshi saab has written nearly 3,200 songs in 500-odd films," he said.
"I don't want to compare with Bakshi Saab because he is the greatest writer and I will never able to reach where he was," the song writer said.
Asked about the present genre of music and lyrics, Sameer said he is facing the biggest challenge of understanding the musical wants of the new generation. "One thing that does not change is - the melody, the lyrics and the poetry, but definitely we have to move with the times and understand what the new generation wants. That is the biggest fight which I am facing today," he said.
"Definitely, I have been successful in adopting the wants of new generation. I have to, if I want to move with the time, I have to accept it," he said.
Sameer, who is well-known for making a blockbuster combo with duo music composer Nadeem-Shravan, is elated to have them back to score music for the forthcoming film "Ishq Forever".
"My association with Nadeem-Shravan has been successful, and I am happy they are back and they have already completed composition for 'Ishq Forever'. I hope the old magic clicks once again," he said.
"Ishq Forever" is a romantic film featuring newcomer Krishna Chaturvedi in the lead. The female lead is yet to be finalised. The movie is produced by Ajay Shah, Shabbir Boxwala and Harry Gandhi, and is directed by Sanjay Dayma.
